Inspired by Black Swan, my friend Francis asked me to help model for his Lighting Room assignment. I was to be a “sophisticated ballerina”. I agreed, having always been interested in Dance Photography.

I’ve never been in a lighting room before, but it was quite exciting. On the set we adjusted the lighting, backdrop, and reflectors. It took multiple shots to find something we liked, but we finally found an interesting angle and graceful pose to work with. Use your hands to frame your face. Make your fingers look relaxed and gentle. Have a fluid looking motion in your pose. Arch your back.

The lighting room is such a great place to enhance photos. With special equipment, you can add a lot of dramatic contrast to a subject and its background. I realized there is so much collaboration involved between the model, photographer, and assistances. It made me really appreciate the whole photoshoot process.

Overall, I learned a lot from this experience and had a ton of fun working with Kevin, Jessica, and Francis :)
